Standardized Patients Assessment Program

The School of Medicine's Standardized Patient Assessment Program is designed to help teach, assess and improve primary care clinical skills and behaviors. The program uses SPs to provide students with opportunities to experience pre-selected simulated patients and to receive immediate performance feedback. Standardized patient (SP) encounters are integrated throughout the pre clinical and clinical years.

As a result of the recently revised undergraduate medical education curriculum, two 8 to10 station Objectively Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) will be instituted: one at the end of year II and another at the end of year III. Each of these OSCEs will have several SP-based stations. Other stations will include computer simulations and basic clinical performance assessments. Dr. Craig Scott serves as the program's director.
