Problem-Based Learning

A multi-disciplinary PBL Component has been established in the Winter Quarter of the second year. It is made up of 25 hours that are voluntarily contributed by three HuBio Courses. The PBL Component supplements the traditional features of the participating courses with a series of small-group PBL sessions. These sessions provide students with their first systematic opportunity: to demonstrate that they can access relevant knowledge from their developing basic and clinical science knowledge bases; to use learning resources in clinical hypothesis formulation and decision-making; to formulate differential diagnoses, and; to demonstrate their ability to collaborate with colleagues on clinical problem-solving. Similar PBL components for the Winter Quarter of the first year and the Autumn Quarter of the second year are in the planning phases.
